The Altar’d Year….By Kell
Welcome back to RDR! We took a little break and now are gearing up for a NEW year. And so it begins…
This year will be named. Named for a purpose, for a striving, for a goal. One single goal where hundreds, maybe thousands of little goals will become a part of making the main thing happen. I’m not anti-resolutions, nor anti-plans. I just want more than I can dream up on a to-do list for myself. I am a dreamer to the core and after a couple of years of this I have learned one thing. He does so much more.
2011. The Year of Loving Deeper. (Super hard)
2012. The Year of a Peaceful Home & A Joyful Soul. (Super SUPER hard)
2013. The Altar’d Year. (This one might just kill me)
I am going to regret this one. I know it. I gave myself a warning in 2012 not to do a HARD thing again. But hard things are Jesus things. And death to flesh is a Jesus thing. And pain and pruning and pouring it all out are Jesus things. So this year, year 3 of naming, I am burdened to die. To leave it all on the Altar. To say goodbye to flesh and let the Spirit reign in this place. It’s a natural follow-up to the kind of peace we began to tackle in 2012 and to the humility revolution that swept through our church as we began to study Hebrews just a few months ago. So Jesus is going to take me to new gospel depths this year. He is going to call me to hard things. And we can do hard things because the power of the Holy Spirit is ours. And the hardest thing, death, brings about the most beautiful thing, life.
“As we surrender our corrupted flesh to His crucifixion, and as His death works in us, we are not repeating the atoning work of the Cross. That is done, completed, finished. Instead, we are letting the power of the Cross work out the crucifixion of our flesh. It is not a cross of punishment that works in us. The Cross did its work of punishment on the body of Jesus. It is the Cross that is freeing us from the confines and the distortions and the limitations of our sin nature. It is not restriction, but freedom. It is, in fact, the only hope of being all that we were created to be.” Altar’d by Jennifer Kennedy Dean
Have you given purpose to 2013 yet? Thinking maybe its time to REALLY live? Grab this book and spend the next 40 days of a new year dying with me. Lets be about more than ourselves or our kids or the ways of the world together.
Romans 6:6-7 “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.”
Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Colossians 3:3 “For you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
I was DEAD. Now I’m ALIVE. Thanks to @LouieGiglio and the last session of Passion 2013 for that beautiful proclamation.
