Alphabet Adventure: M & N Week

One word. Rested.  I have had great joy over the last month directing our churches first Vacation Bible School which completed this past Friday!!  Did it wipe me out? Yes!  Did I nap for days? Yes!  Did I have a blast?  Yes!  Do I STILL have whipped cream in my ears?  Possibly!!!  Beyond the fun and the fabulous kids I have to say the most precious part of VBS was the countless hours of service with the women of our church.  It is a beautiful thing when the body is intentional in service together and I am humbled by the many hands that extended beyond themselves for the glory of the Lord.  I miss all my ladies!!  And of course, we are still singing about DNA in this house!!

So, excuse me for the 2 week (okay maybe 3??!!) break in my blogging!  We extended M & N week over two weeks and had some really fun moments.  For M…..the favorite by FAR was sorting big & small marshmallows with tongs & patterning with M&M candies.  I printed the M&M patterning pages from Make Learning Fun and laminated them as they have already been overused!!  Maybe it is their excuse to get a treat out this mama ;-).  We took the boys to a movie…toy story 3 (where I happened to ball my eyes out at the end) which was such a fun treat for the boys!  I worked with Logan on some mapping books we have and we searched for M states on our U.S. map that I got here.  We also made mailboxes (used shoeboxes, butcher paper, red scrapbook paper, paper fasteners, & cardboard for the “letters”) for each of the boys rooms.  They have been sending each other letters ever since, so cute.  We pulled out a few of our normal things- musical instruments, floor marble game, and of course ate Mexican food!!  I saw a really cute idea here on making a mommy puzzle but didn’t get around to that with all the other things we focused on but some of you might love to do something like this.  We did our M devotion from Hunts ABC book.

For N…We had to do NASA, especially since there is a Star Wars exhibit!!!  Our timing wasn’t fabulous and they were exhausted from VBS at my mom’s church (love this church!!!) but we made the most of it with some good friends from our church who without fail always make laughter a priority!  Our dining room table is now wrapped in butcher paper and functions as our hands on Alphabet center these days.  There we had 4 stations for the week: oodles of noodles in a huge colander for scooping & pouring, newspaper for cutting and pasting, a bowl of nuts with shells on (walnuts/ almonds etc) and tongs for sorting (went over well but not as well as the marshmallows!!!), and I did a number activity.  For the numbers, I used an 18 count egg cart and put the numbers in the bottom (1-18) and L & B had to put the number of glass beads in the correct egg cart.  We did our N devo from Hunt’s book as well as a “Nightcrawler” hunt (#17 from Faith-Filled Moments).  Oh!  And of course, Nana came to visit with our Nephews!!  Good N fun.  Oh, and Nate made a masterpiece on the wall with crayons, thanks for that buddy.

Let me just say, I cannot wait for P…. ;-).
